After holding onto their #19 ranking in this week's NAIA Basketball Poll, the Valley City State University Women kept their strong season going with a 60-53 win on the road over the University of Minnesota-Morris.
It wasn't the typical offensive night the Vikings have come to expect, shooting over 50% as a team on the season but the defense led Valley City State to the win. The Vikings forced 25 Cougar turnovers and limited the home team to 3 of 16 from the three point line.
The Vikings struggled from the floor as well shooting only 21 for 62 (33.8%) from the floor and 1 of 14 from the three point line but held a huge rebounding advantage. Valley City State pulled down 46 total rebounds including 19 offensive.
Brittany Lehner hit for 15 points while Katelyn Ralston netted 13 for Valley City State's two double digit scorers.
The win is the Vikings sixth straight win as they now stand at 6-1 on the season. Valley City State will host their final two home games at the W. E. Osmon Fieldhouse for 2012 when they host Presentation College on Thursday and Trinity Bible College on Friday evening. Both games will tip-off at 5:30 PM.
