With the first of two made free throws half way through the first half of a home game against South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, Sekani Milligen netted his 1,000th point in a Viking uniform on his way to 18 in leading the 19th ranked Vikings to a 61-55 victory over the Hard Rockers.
Milligen, known for her three point shooting prowess, shot five for 12 from the field and four for nine from beyond the arc but was perfect from the line shooting four for four from the charity stripe to lead Valley City State to their 20th win of the season.
The Vikings struggled from the floor in the second half, shooting only 33.3% and mustered only a five for 20 (25%) effort from the three point line. Their thirteen point half time lead dwindled to three late in the second half but the Vikings secured the victory with an eighteen for twenty shooting performance from the free throw line.
Aaron Duske and Gus Kueber eached chipped in with ten points each to give VCSU three double digit scorers in the game. Kueber also led the Vikings hauling down seven rebounds in the game.
The victory earned the Vikings their 20th win of the season versus six losses. They will look to beat rival Mayville State for a third time this season when the Comets visit the W. E. Osmon Fieldhouse on Wednesday with a 7:30 PM tip off.
