The Vikings fell 8-0 to Clarke at Metro Dome on Sunday.
Ronnie Blagg handled Clarke's lineup with ease in relief, racking up five strikeouts. Blagg allowed one earned run on six hits and one walk over four innings.
Andrew Redman recorded the win for Clarke. He tossed five innings of shutout ball. Redman struck out eight, walked three and gave up no hits.
Sergio Cruz, Nico Piscopo, Luis Reyes and Nick Woltkamp helped lead Clarke. They combined for seven hits and seven RBIs.
Clarke went up for good in the second, scoring seven runs, five earned, off starter Corey Pudas, on two doubles, a groundout by Jose Stelluti-Chang, an RBI single by Cruz, and a three-run triple by Woltkamp.
The Valley City State University Vikings drop 2-1 game to Clarke despite efforts of Mike Gershman
Gershman did all he could to give the Valley City State University Vikings a boost, but it wasn't enough to get past Clarke.
Gershman had a hot bat for the Vikings. Gershman went 2-3 and scored the lone viking run. He singled in the third inning and tripled in the sixth inning.
Jordan Hohensee recorded the win for Clarke. He allowed one run over seven innings. Hohensee struck out seven, walked none and gave up four hits.
Clarke went up for good in the first, scoring two runs on an RBI single by Rolando Sanchez and an RBI triple by Luis Reyes.
In the sixth inning, the Valley City State University Vikings pushed across their only run of the day on a groundout by Preston Jensen.
The Vikings are back in action early on Monday as they take on Clarke once again for the second half of the four game set.
