The VCSU Men's and Women's Track & Field team concluded their 2013 regular season at Bemidji State University, competing in The Bemidji State Twilight Track & Field Invitational on Thursday February 14.
Junior Philip Reuer finished his indoor campaign with two first place performances in the 200m(23.21) and the 400m(51.69). He also lead of the men's 4 x400m relay team as they ran away with first place, virtually uncontested.
Darien Moore kept his winning streak going in both the weight throw and shot put, throwing 19.56m/64.02.25 and 17.20m/56-05.25 respectively. This is Darien's last meet before he travels to Geneva, Ohio to compete the NAIA National Indoor Track & Field Championships which will take place February 28 through March 2.
Freshmen Jessica Meland continues to improve in the shot put as she finished in second with a throw of 12.36m/40-06.75 feet, to set a personal record and break her own school record.
Junior Amber Volanti had her best performance of the season in the ring as she finished second in the weight throw with a toss of 12.30m (40-04.25 ft.)
Freshmen Ryan Huton had two fourth place finishes in the 60m and 200m in spite of battling lingering effects of a cold, running 7.42 and 23.91 respectively.
Freshmen Marcelluz Smith finished fourth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.80.
Freshmen Megan Capistrano grabbed third place in the 60m to lower her time to an 8.48.
Both Juniors Wayne Engelhard and Anna Fuka won the 600m in running 1:26.72 and 1:41.80 respectively.
Junior Jose Garcia returning to the track after a mid-season injury showed resilience in overcoming diversity in grabbing third place in both the mile and 3000m.
