The #20 ranked Viking Men defeated Dakota State University 71-66 in their final regular season game at the W. E. Osmon Fieldhouse.
Valley City State's offense returned in the season finale as they shot 10-20 (50%) from the floor as a team in the second half and nine of 14 from the free throw line for 64.3% to secure the victory over the visiting Trojans.
The defense of the Vikings also was on display as they nailed down Dakota State in the second half and limited them to eight of 29 shooting from the field. The Trojans however were able to stay in the game shooting 13-16 from the free throw line.
Valley City State put four players in double figures, led by Gus Kueber who dumped in 17 points while also grabbing a game high seven rebounds. Sekani Milligen followed with 13 points, Patrick Rogers hit for 12 and Aaron Duske came off the bench and scored 11 to round out the double digit scorers for the home victors.
The Vikings finish the regular season with a 21-7 record. They will open the A.I.I. Conference Tournament on Friday, February 22. Seeding and opponent for Valley City State will be announced on Sunday.
