After a heartbreaking loss last week versus rival Mayville State, the Valley City State University Viking Men's Basketball team dropped three spots in this week's National NAIA Division II Men's Basketball poll.
The Vikings moved down to number 23 this week after being ranked 20th in the nation in the previous week's poll. Valley City State rebounded after the last second loss to the Comets with a win versus Dakota State to finish the regular season with a 21-7 overall record.
The Vikings are the #2 seed in the upcoming Association of Independent Institution Conference Men's Basketball Tournament in Jamestown, ND.
The #2 seed gives the Viking Men a first round bye, putting them automatically in the A.I.I. Semi-Finals on Saturday evening and one win away from an NAIA National Tournament berth.
The Vikings will play at 5:30 PM on Saturday at the Jamestown Civic Center versus the winner of the first round game in their bracket, #3 Dakota State University (19-9) or #6 Northern New Mexico University (10-17).
Valley City State is a combined 4-0 on the season versus Dakota State and Northern New Mexico having beaten each team on the road and at home.
