With a 78-66 victory over the #22 ranked Mayville State University Comets in the semi-finals of the A.I.I. Conference Basketball Tournament, the Valley City State University Viking Women's Basketball team earned its third straight trip to the NAIA Women's National Basketball Tournament.

Senior Courtney Titus erupted for 24 points with the hot hand from the perimeter shooting seven for nine from the three point line and three for four from the free throw line. Of the Vikings eleven three's in the game, Titus had seven.

Brittany Lehner struggled from the floor shooting only four of 11 from the field but managed to get to the free throw line and knock down 11 of 12 tries to score 19 points in the game. Sadiqah Jihad chipped in 12 to round out the double digit scorers for Valley City State.

As good as Titus and Lehner were offensively, the Viking team defense was just as good. Valley City State limited the Comet offense, known for knocking down the three point shot, to just 9-31 from the floor for 29.0%. Mayville State could only muster three of 16 from long range in the first half.

By winning the semi-final match up, Valley City State University earned one of two automatic bids given to the top two finishing teams of the A.I.I. Basketball Tournament. It will be the third straight trip to the national tournament for the Vikings.

The victory also gives the Vikings win number 24 on the season, a new record for wins in a season, besting the previous number of 23 set in 2010-11.

Valley City State will look to add an A.I.I. Conference Tournament Championship to its belt and play for a higher seed in the national tournament when they play host Jamestown College on Sunday in the A.I.I. Tournament.

Game time is slated for 2:00 PM at the Jamestown Civic Center.
