For the second straight season, the Valley City State University Men fell to Dakota State in the semi-finals of the A.I.I. Men's Basketball Tournament.

This year the Trojans upset the #2 seeded Vikings 58-53 to earn one of two automatic national tournament bids for the A.I.I.

Statistically the Vikings were better in many categories, but just as in the end of the season, the Vikings were haunted by missed free throw opportunities. Valley City State shot just 7-16 (43.8%) from the charity stripe in the five point loss.

The Trojans also limited Valley City State's Sekani Milligen to just eight points on three of eleven shooting including two of seven from the three point line.

AJ McDonald and Aaron Duske led the Vikings in scoring and were the only two VCSU players to hit double figures, scoring 10 points each.

The loss drops the #23 ranked Valley City State Men to 21-8 on the year. The Vikings will now wait and hope that they will qualify through an at-large bid when the field for the NAIA Men's National Tournament is announced later this week.
