The Valley City State University Vikings had already sealed their third straight trip the NAIA National Tournament before the A.I.I. Championship on Sunday, a win versus the rival Jimmies would have been icing on the cake.
The Jimmies, however had other ideas. After splitting a regular season two game series, with each team winning on their opponent's home floor, Jamestown College held their home court in the A.I.I. Championship with a 69-52 victory over Valley City State.
Playing for the third day in a row and a day after shooting over 50% from the three point line versus Mayville State University, the Vikings legs may have been a bit tired as they were not able to hit one shot from beyond the arc versus the Jimmies. Shooting 0-10 from the three point line, Valley City State wasn't able to keep pace with Jamestown College as they netted 9-23 from downtown.
Brittany Lehner led the Vikings scoring 20 points and Courtney Titus followed with 11. Teammate Alyssa Hummel was the only other Viking to score over four points in the game, dropping in nine.
Valley City State qualified for their third straight NAIA Women's Division II National Tournament with one of two automatic bids given to the Association of Independent Institutions Conference by beating Mayville State University on Saturday in their record breaking 24th victory of the season.
The Vikings will learn their first round opponent and seed for the National Tournament on Wednesday. The Division II National is held in Sioux City, IA beginning on March 6th.
