MBB: Valley City State Men Qualify for NAIA National Tournament
Things fell into place for the Valley City State University Viking Men's Basketball team as they punched their ticket to the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Tournament in Point Lookout, MO.

After being upset in the semi-finals of the A.I.I. Conference Tournament, the Vikings had to wait as their fate was decided by other conference tournaments throughout the nation. That waiting paid off in a trip to the national tournament.

Valley City State (24-8), who dropped one spot to #24 in the nation in this week's national poll, will open the tournament versus Indiana Southeast. The Grenadiers are ranked #10 in this week's NAIA poll and have an overall record of 24-7.

The Vikings will face Indiana Southeast, the tournaments 11th overall seed on opening day of the NAIA Men's Division II Tournament, March 6th at 5:45 pm.

The National Tournament appearance for the Valley City State University Men is the first appearance under this national tournament format which began in 1992.

Prior to this season, the Viking Men made national tournament appearances in 1960 and 1965 under legendary Coach Bill Osmon.

Valley City State made another appearance and collected their only national tournament victory in 1987 under Coach Bob Parker. The Vikings picked up a first round victory over the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, 63-61 before being beaten in the second round by Waynesburg State (PA) 86-84.
