It was a good day at the plate for the Vikings' Colin Waldner. Waldner went 2-4 and scored one run. He singled in the first and fifth innings.
RJ Page got the start for Mayville State University. He allowed two runs over three innings. He struck out four, walked three and surrendered three hits. Vic Sokolofsky pitched the final four frames for the Comets allowing no runs.
The Vikings jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Waldner kicked things off for the Valley City State University Vikings with a single. Daniel Buehner singled, scoring Preston Jensen and Waldner.
Mayville State University never trailed after scoring three runs in the second on a three-run home run by Dillon Lundin.
Mayville State University pushed one more run across in the top of the fifth when Bryan Jacklitch stole home.
Ryan Shaw went five innings for VCSU and Cory Pudas pitched a scoreless 6th and 7th to complete the game.
The Valley City State University Vikings hang tough until late in 10-4 loss to Mayville State University.
It was a tight game until Mayville State University scored four late runs for the 10-4 victory over the Vikings on Thursday in Lennox SD.
Daniel Buehner boosted his batting average thanks to a perfect 3-3 day at the plate to pace the Vikings. He singled in the second, third, and fifth innings.
Darrin Stanislawski got the start for Mayville State University. He allowed one run over 1 2/3 innings. Stanislawski struck out two, walked five and gave up one hit.
Phillip Steer, Bryan Jacklitch and Johnny Pistulka helped lead Mayville State University. They combined for seven hits and six RBIs.
After pushing across one run in the bottom of the second, VCSU faced just a 2-1 deficit. A wild pitch gave the Vikings life. But, Scott Petry got Colin Waldner to strike out to end the inning with the bases loaded.
The Viking offense failed to pick up any key hits leaving 8 runners in scoring position in the game.
