The Valley City State University Softball team has played 24 games all on the road this spring with the closest game to their home field being a four hour drive. That will change on Thursday when the Vikings host Mayville State University in their home opener.
After rough spring weather has forced the cancellation and changing of many game dates, the Vikings will play their home opener on Thursday at 1:00 PM versus their long time rival before hosting the Comets again on Friday at Noon.
The games however will be played on Shelly Ellig Field at Lokken Stadium, on the recently new field turf football field.
"The home games are certainly going to be welcomed," commented head coach Chad Slyter. "It will be a unique atmosphere playing on the field turf. Our team has played on it at other locations so it will be nothing out of the ordinary for us, but I think it will provide a unique experience for the fans of Viking Softball."
Game times on Thursday are 1:00 and 3:00 PM while Friday's starts are 12:00 and 2:00 PM.
