The Viking Softball team took to the turf of the football field again on the nicest day they have had of the spring in North Dakota and played out another sweep of visiting Mayville State University by scores of 10-2 and 8-0. Both games ended early due to the mercy rule.
In game one, Liz Hall-Sewell and Katarina Boychuk fueled the Viking offense, each hitting three for three at the plate. Hall-Sewell added to her game with three RBI while Boychuk swiped three bases and scored three runs. Adrianna Boychuk and Caitlin Giesbrecht also collected two RBI each.
In all the Vikings outhit the Comets 12-3 in the game.
In the circle Samantha Nalley was dominant at times, not surrendering a hit until the fourth inning, surrendering one earned run on one walk and six strikeouts.
Game two was much of the same as the Vikings struck early and often to score the 8-0 five inning game. VCSU scored two in the first, three in the second one in the third and two more in the fourth and outhit their counterpart 11-4 in the game.
Adrianna Boychuk, Brittany Lehner and Hilary Kulczewski all collected two hits each. Both of Kulczewski’s hits went for doubles as she collected an RBI on each.
Samantha Nalley got the nod in the circle again in game two and this time pitched to a strong defense, striking out one in four innings of work. Torri Fenton completed the shut out for the Vikings throwing a no hit fifth inning.
Valley City State is scheduled to play their third doubleheader in three days versus Jamestown College on Saturday.
