Jamestown College's sixth inning charge helps upend the Valley City State University Vikings, 5-4
Jamestown College took the lead in the sixth inning, and the Vikings were unable to muster a comeback, losing 5-4 in seven innings on Saturday at Valley City, ND.
Scott Stephenson racked up two RBIs when homered in the first inning.
Chris Combo got the win for Jamestown College. He tossed 1 1/3 innings of shutout ball. He struck out one, walked one and surrendered one hit.
In the top of the first, Jamestown College grabbed the early lead, 1-0. After Andy Young singled, Nico Moreno doubled, bringing home Young.
After the quick strike from Jamestown College, Vikings responded with three runs in the first. VCSU scored on a solo home run by Brady Anderson and a two-run home run by Stephenson.

VCSU lost 4-1 at Valley City, ND on Saturday.
Ryan Shaw looked sharp on the mound for VCSU. Jamestown College managed just one hit off of the Vikings' pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out two during his four innings of work.
Kyle Mckay got the win for Jamestown College. He allowed one run over seven innings. Mckay struck out three, walked none and gave up four hits.

Scott Stephenson did all he could to give VCSU a boost, but it wasn't enough to get past Jamestown College, as the Vikings lost 9-4 in seven innings at Valley City, ND on Sunday.
Stephenson went 2-3, drove in one and scored one run. He singled in the first inning and tripled in the sixth inning.
Christian Hackworth recorded the win for Jamestown College. He allowed two runs over four innings. He struck out three, walked one and surrendered six hits.
Jamestown College was sparked by Spencer Flaten and Nico Moreno, who teamed up for five hits and six RBIs.
In the bottom of the first, the Vikings grabbed the early lead, 1-0. VCSU got things going when Colin Waldner singled. A single by Preston Jensen then moved Waldner from first to third. Stephenson singled, plating Waldner.
VCSU matched Jamestown College's strong inning with a one-run inning of their own in the fourth. The Vikings scored on an RBI double by Joey Demers.
Jamestown College went up for good in the fifth, scoring six runs on two doubles and two singles.
One run in the bottom of the sixth helped the Vikings close their deficit to 7-3. A groundout by Daniel Buehner gave Valley City life. Brenden Shearer struck out to end the threat.
Jamestown College tacked on another two runs in the seventh.

The Valley City State University Vikings fell 14-10 to Jamestown College on Sunday at Jamestown, ND despite racking up 17 hits and 10 runs.
Cliff Vazquez got a hit in each of his four at bats. He doubled in the sixth inning and singled in the third, fifth, and ninth innings.
Ben Mortenson recorded the win for Jamestown College. He tossed three innings of shutout ball. Mortenson struck out one, walked two and gave up three hits.
Jamestown College's Spencer Flaten, Nico Moreno, Jakob Ohmann and Jonathan Minchella combined for nine hits and 10 RBIs.
Jamestown College never trailed after scoring two runs in the second on a two-run home run by Minchella.
Jamestown College added four more runs in the top of the fifth. Ohmann singled, plating Andy Young and Moreno to start the inning. That was followed up by Flaten's triple, scoring Ohmann.
After pushing across five runs in the bottom of the fifth, the Vikings faced just a 7-5 deficit. An RBI single by Brady Anderson, an RBI single by Preston Jensen, a two-run triple by Scott Stephenson, and a wild pitch triggered the Valley City State comeback. Nick Melino ended the inning by getting Robert Wiley to fly out.
Jamestown College answered with five runs in the sixth. A wild pitch scored Matthew Achter to open the scoring in the frame. That was followed up by Ohmann's single, plating Young.
One Vikings run crossed the plate in the bottom half of the sixth, making the score 12-6. An RBI single by Josiah Churchill gave the Vikings life. Finally, Melino induced an inning-ending double play from Daniel Buehner.
Jamestown College built upon its lead with two runs in the seventh. Moreno's double got things going, scoring Achter. That was followed up by Ohmann's double, bringing home Moreno.
After pushing across one run in the bottom of the seventh, the Vikings faced a 14-7 deficit. A sacrifice fly by Vazquez fueled a Vikings' comeback. Jamestown College stopped the rally after Ben Watkins got Churchill to ground out.
