The Valley City State University Softball Team was outhit on the day but scraped their way to a 5-4 win in game two, to salvage a split on the day after dropping the opener 8-3 at Concordia College.

The Cobbers scored four runs in the top of the third, three unearned to plate themselves to a six to one lead and were never really threatened the rest of the way. The Vikings tried to respond in the bottom of the third by scoring two of their own to get within three runs but that was the closest they would get.

No Viking would tally more than a single hit as they were out slugged by Concordia 11 to seven in the game.

Samantha Nalley recorded the first six outs of the game via strikeout but only got one more in the game the rest of the way and was tagged with the loss.

The Vikings picked up the intensity in game two as the atmosphere was more like a tournament game as they fought their way to a 5-4 victory. Concordia College out hit the Vikings again 11 to nine but cashed in more runners on base than their counterpart to score the game two win.

Adrianna Boychuk, Hayley Bevan, Liz Hall-Sewell and Katarina Boychuk all collected two hits each for the Vikings in the win.

In the circle, Samantha Nalley came on in relief in the second inning and struck out ten in six innings of work, scattering seven hits, allowing three earned runs and walking one.

The Viking, along with Concordia College, wore pink on Monday in their doubleheader for Breast Cancer Awareness day.

Valley City State will scrimmage Williston State College on Tuesday for Senior Day before departing for Dickinson State University for the Unaffiliated-A.I.I./Frontier Conference National Qualifier Tournament where they will play on Friday morning at 10:00 AM. The #4 Vikings will open the tournament versus #5 seed Dakota State University.
