The Viking volleyball team ended the weekend on a high note Saturday, knocking off Doane College in four sets to salvage a 1-3 record during the Red Raider Classic.

After getting swept in each of the first three matches at the Northwestern College tournament, VCSU came out firing against Doane and picked up a 25-15 victory in game one. Doane evened it at 1-1 after game two, but the Vikings won game three in extra points, 26-24, and sealed the match with a 25-17 win in game four.

Aurissa Martens led the Viking attack with 14 kills and a .364 attack percentage. Alley Theroux added eight kills, Kelsey Labodi racked up six, and Barbara Ector had five kills.

Stephanie Miller and Anna Neufeld combined for 33 assists. Doane College was receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 Preseason Poll.

The win improves Valley City State to 2-4 overall. VCSU is back on the road this weekend for four games at the Corn Palace Classic in Mitchell, S.D.

The Vikings take on Saint Mary (Neb.), Dakota Wesleyan, York (Neb.) and Clarke (Iowa) during the two-day tournament Aug. 30-31.
