Viking golf opened the season Wednesday with a solid showing at the University of Jamestown Open.

Four Vikings placed in the Top 10, led by Haley Christofferson who carded a 90 to place sixth in the women's division.

For the Viking men, Shane Ost, Ben Sorenson and Beau Diegel all shot a 76 to finish in a tie for 8th. The Viking men debuted a very balanced team in the first meet of the season. VCSU took nine men's golfers and fielded two teams. Team 1 finished in a tie for 4th with a 309 total, and Team 2 took 6th with a 310 total. All nine men's golfers shot between 76 and 80.

The top six men's teams were separated by just 11 shots. Minnesota State-Fergus Falls won the meet with a 299, and their top golfer Jared Cowden took medalist honors with a 71.

VCSU had two women's golfers at the meet. Christofferson's 90 was good for 6th, and Alyssa Tait carded a 101 to finish 11th.

Up next: The Vikings are scheduled to play the Mystic Open on Tuesday, Sept. 3, at Prairie West Golf Course in Mandan.
