A bit of history will be made Wednesday night as Valley City State and University of Jamestown take the Graichen Gymnasium court for their first ever North Star Athletic Association volleyball match.

The NSAA is the newest NAIA conference, formed this summer by Valley City State, University of Jamestown, Mayville State, Dakota State and Presentation College. Dickinson State plans to join the conference for the 2014-15 season.
The 2013 volleyball conference schedule will consist of eight matches, a home and away match against each team.

Valley City State brings a 4-7 record into the match-up in Valley City, having won their last two matches. The Vikings have not played since winning their home opener on Sept. 2 against Bismarck State College. VCSU defeated the Mystics in four sets, handing Bismarck its first loss of the season. Valley City State is coached by Susan Kolbow, in her fourth season as head coach. She is assisted by Nicole Solum.

Aurissa Martens has been the Vikings main offensive threat this season, racking up 104 kills at a clip of 2.6 kills per game. Martens is one of two seniors on this year’s roster, joined by senior setter Anna Neufeld, who leads the Vikings with 148 assists.

Jamestown sports an 8-4 record prior to Wednesday's match in Graichen Gymnasium. The Jimmies received votes in the NAIA preseason Top 25 poll. In the last four matches, Jamestown is 4-0 and has not lost a game. Jon Hegerle is in his fifth season as head coach of the Jimmies.
