The Valley City State men's golf team took second place during the University of Jamestown Invitational Sept. 14-15 at the Jamestown Country Club.
The Vikings fired a first-day 311 to tie for the lead, and finished with a 637 over the two days. Shane Ost stayed hot, recording his third straight Top 5 finish and his fourth Top 10 of the season. The junior from Valley City shot a 79 on Saturday before firing a 73 on Sunday to take fourth place with a 152 total. Ost's round of 73 was the second-best round of the tournament.
Ben Sorenson was just three shots behind with a 155 total. That tied him for 7th. He also has four Top 10 finishes this year.
Casey Colemer tied for 10th with a 157, his best finish of the year. Jake Richels tied for 17th with a 164 and Tyler Stevens shot a 166 to finish 20th.
On the women's side, Haley Christofferson recorded her third consecutive Top 10 finish. The sophomore from Lisbon, N.D., followed up a 103 on Saturday with a 92 on Sunday to finish tied for 7th. Alyssa Tait finished 18th.
Up next: The Vikings travel to Benson, Minn., for the University of Minnesota-Morris invite on Sept. 19. VCSU will then host the Viking Invitational on Sept. 22-23 in Carrington.
