The Viking volleyball team earned its first conference win of the season Friday night, defeating Presentation College in a North Star Athletic Association match.
VCSU went on the road and made quick work of the Saints in straight sets, 25-22, 25-14, 26-24.
Valley City improves to 7-11 on the season, and 1-2 in the North Star. Presentation College drops to 5-7 overall and 0-2 in the North Star.
After a rough hitting night Wednesday in a home loss to Dakota State, the Vikings came out and played much smoother Friday in Aberdeen, S.D. VCSU racked up 36 kills and just 15 errors in 103 attacks -- a .204 team hitting percentage.
Aurissa Martens tallied 14 kills and a .345 hitting percentage to lead the Vikings. Kelsey Labodi added nine kills and a .294 hitting percentage in the win. Barbara Ector had five kills and Alley Theroux chipped in four.
Rachel Hummel led the Vikings in serving with three aces. Stephanie Miller had a team-high 14 digs and 11 assists, and Megan Good had 10 assists. As a team, VCSU scored 11 blocks.
