Vikings split fall baseball doubleheader

The Valley City State University Vikings top Presentation College in back-and-forth affair, 7-6
The Vikings outlasted Presentation College on Sunday after five lead changes, pulling out a 7-6 win at Charlie Brown Field.
VCSU managed to grab the lead after a strong seventh inning. A bases loaded walk by Kayl Hamre scored Conner Blackburn and gave the Vikings the lead for good.
Anthony Necochea got the win for the Valley City State University Vikings. He allowed two runs over two innings. He struck out three, walked three and surrendered two hits.
Presentation College jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Presentation College's rally started when Dylan Segula doubled. A groundout by Drew Sanders then moved Dylan Segula from second to third.
Presentation College matched its one-run fifth inning with one more in the ninth. In the fifth, Presentation College scored on an RBI single by Drew, bringing home Dylan Segula.
The Vikings tied the game in the sixth on an RBI single by Brandon Welinski that scored Jake Rambow.
After posting one run in the eighth, the Vikings again scored one in the ninth. In the eighth, the Valley City State University Vikings scored on an RBI double by Cole Honl, scoring Hayden Johnson.
The Valley City State University Vikings drop 9-4 game to Mayville State
Austin Markel did all he could to give the Valley City State University Vikings a boost, but it wasn't enough to get past Mayville State, as the Valley City State University Vikings lost 9-4 at Valley City on Sunday.
Austin got on base three times in the game for the Vikings. He singled in the third and fifth innings.
Scott Petry got the start for Mayville State. He allowed two runs over three innings. Scott struck out none, walked one and gave up two hits.
Mayville State was sparked by Spencer Kidder and Rowdy Dove, who teamed up for six hits and five RBIs.
Mayville State jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Mayville State's threat began with a single by John Pistalka. Spencer Kidder singled, scoring Skyler Bergeson and John.
A one-run sixth inning helped bring the Valley City State University Vikings within three. A single by Thomas Houdek sparked the Vikings' rally.
After pushing across one run in the top of the seventh, the Vikings faced just a 6-4 deficit. An error set off the Valley City State University Vikings rally.
After a quick strike from the Valley City State University Vikings, Mayville State responded with one run in the seventh.
VCSU will play in Mayville ND, Sunday Sept. 29th. The Vikings will take on Mayville State at 10a and Presentation College at 1p.
