The Viking volleyball team posted a 2-2 record this weekend during a tournament at Clarke University (Iowa). The Vikings are now 10-14 on the season.

VCSU opened the weekend with a dominating three-game sweep of Calumet (Ind.), 25-17, 25-16, 25-17. Aurissa Martens was a force in the match, scoring nine kills and six block points.

VCSU then dropped a pair of matches to Clarke University and Hannibal-LaGrange College. Against Clarke, VCSU won game one 25-20, but Clarke rallied for 31-29 win in game two. They then won games three and four by scored of 25-23 and 25-14.

Hannibal-LaGrange defeated VCSU by scores of 25-23, 26-24, 25-15.

In the weekend finale, VCSU bounced back with another sweep, this one coming against Mount Mercy (Iowa), 25-19, 25-13, 25-15. The Vikings employed a balanced attack, receiving 12 kills from Martens, 10 from Kelsey Labodi and nine kills from Alley Theroux.

Emily Plowman had three service aces and Rachel Hummel added two aces. The Vikings racked up seven team blocks.

Up next: VCSU goes on the road to play Bismarck State College on Tuesday, Oct. 1. VCSU defeated Bismarck State earlier this season. The Vikings then host Briar Cliff at 7 p.m. Friday.
