Aurissa Martens had a season-high 22 kills Wednesday night as she led the Viking volleyball team to a conference road win over Dakota State, 25-23, 20-25, 25-21, 25-22.
The victory moves the Vikings into a tie with Dakota State of third in the North Star Athletic Association standings. Both teams are now 2-3 in conference play and have split their head-to-head matches.
The Vikings won a tight game one 25-23 Wednesday night to gain the early momentum in Madison, S.D. Dakota State would tie it after a 25-20 win in game two, but the Vikings would take home the victory in four games with a 25-21 and 25-22 wins to seal the match.
Alley Theroux added 12 kills to Martens' 22. Kaitlyn Heuring had nine kills and Rachel Hummel tallied eight. Megan Good and Stephanie Miller each had 26 assists, and Miller racked up a match-high five service aces.
Emily Plowman led the Viking defense with 21 digs. Miller added 12 digs.
Up next: VCSU (11-17, 2-3 North Star) continues an important conference week with a road match Friday night at University of Jamestown, and a home match Saturday at 4 p.m. against Presentation College.
