#7 Raiders pull away from Vikings in 2nd half

No. 7-ranked Northwestern College outscored Valley City State 44-24 in the second half Saturday afternoon as the Raiders picked up an 83-54 win in NAIA women's basketball.

The Red Raiders led 39-30 at the half, and then pulled away in the second half behind a fierce man-to-man defense.

Senior Brittany Lehner led the Vikings with 16 points. Tarah Cleveland added seven and Stephanie Pedersen chipped in six points. The Vikings shot 30 percent from the field.

Northwestern shot at a 48 percent clip, including 54 percent in the decisive second half. The Red Raiders were led by 22 points from Alli Engebretson and 13 from Karen Hutson.

Valley City State drops to 0-2 on the season. Northwestern improves to 3-0.

Up next: Valley City State hits the road for a tournament Friday and Saturday at Concordia, Nebraska. The Vikings will take on Doane on Friday and Concordia on Saturday.
