Volleyball season ends in conference semifinals

The Valley City State volleyball team had its season come to a close Wednesday night, losing at Mayville State in the semifinals of the North Star Athletic Association postseason tournament.

The No. 3-seeded Vikings lost to No. 2 Mayville State for the third time this season, falling 9-25, 20-25, 20-25 on Wednesday.

Valley City finishes the season with a 13-25 overall record. Mayville State advances to play Jamestown in the conference championship match on Saturday.

Junior Alley Theroux had eight kills and only one error to lead the Viking attack Wednesday night. Aurissa Martens, one of two seniors playing her final match, had eight kills. Senior setter Anna Neufeld had 12 assists in the loss.

Martens ends her Viking career with 1,066 kills and 408 total blocks. She will leave VCSU school history as No. 8 all time in kills and No. 3 all time in blocks.
