One VCSU staff member in contact with future students is Sarah Larsen. She works as an admissions counselor in Enrollment Services, providing high schools and prospective students with information about VCSU.

Sarah is more than a Valley City State employee; she understands the true VCSU experience—the ins and outs of college and campus life—having graduated from VCSU in 2013 with a degree in music.

Her schedule varies—some days she’s in the office and others she spends on the road visiting high schools and presenting VCSU to prospective students. She loves “the change in routine and the opportunity to get out of the office.”

While most of her travel takes place in Minnesota, Sarah has also traveled to Winnipeg, Canada, where she presented at the Rotary Career Symposium. Through these trips, Sarah says, “I’ve met a lot of new people, including admission counselors from other schools,” providing her with many new opportunities and learning experiences.

In her free time, Sarah provides piano lesson to kids in Valley City; plays with her puppy, Emma; and does some reading and fishing. She also enjoyed planning her wedding last summer—she and her husband, Justin, make their home in Valley City.

From the beginning at a campus tour or visit day to enrolling for classes, Sarah Larsen is there to help answer questions and provide guidance to students as they begin their careers at VCSU.
