NExT stands for the Network for Excellence in Teaching and is a Bush Foundation sponsored initiative.

In 2009, Minnesota State University Moorhead (MSUM), North Dakota State University (NDSU) and Valley City State University (VCSU) were awarded a $6 million grant to collaborate for the purpose of improving our teacher education programs. The grant focuses on five pillars:

  • Recruit the best and brightest candidates to teacher education
  • Prepare effective teachers
  • Place graduates in supportive environments
  • Support graduates in their first three years in the profession
  • Measure effectiveness of the initiative

What does NExT mean for you?

Students are a guaranteed graduate meaning that their graduating institution stands behind their preparation.

If graduates are not able to be effective in their first years of teaching, VCSU will support them. Graduates are entitled to free professional development if they or their school supervisor determines that they are not performing effectively as a teacher.

What does Place & Support mean?

  • If you are beginning the first year of teaching and are within a 150-mile radius of Valley City State University, then the New Teacher Support Program Coordinator will personally visit you.
  • If you are outside the 150-mile radius of VCSU, then a visit will be coordinated through Skype.
  • Regardless of your location, the New Teacher Support Program Coordinator will help you succeed.

Stay in Contact

  • VCSU offers a framework of support for graduates during their first three years of teaching.
  • VCSU New Teacher Support Specialist will contact recent graduates through email.
  • Support visits can be set up by phone, Skype, or FaceTime. All new teacher support visits are confidential.
  • We are here to support and help our new graduates as they begin their teaching careers.
