Microsoft Teams Logo

The Microsoft Teams app provides you with the ability to work on various documents with other users in one, organized place. Used as a collaboration tool, the Teams app aids you in a variety of team-based work. The main features of Teams are joining a team, editing a document on Teams, and scheduling meetings with Teams. The following guidelines describe the main steps to properly use each feature.

Joining a Team

Joining a Team will allow you to begin using the collaboration tools of Teams that aid in team interaction on various documents. The following steps will guide you through joining a team.

  1. Click the “Teams” tab found on the left-hand side of the screen.
  2. Click the “ Join or create a team” found on the bottom left of the screen.
  3. Enter the code given to you within the “Join a team with a code” tile.
  4. Follow any additional steps provided by the application.

Editing a Document on Teams

By editing a document on Teams, each team member will be given access to the document allowing for a deeper level of collaboration in team-based work. The following steps will help you in editing a document with Teams.

  1. Click the “Files” tab found on the left-hand side of the screen. (If “Files” tab is not showing click the “…” tab, then click “Files”).
  2. Click the storage location of the file. (Example: OneDrive)
  3. Click the “…” icon on the file you would like to edit.
  4. Click the option “Edit with Teams.”
If your desired file is not already in OneDrive, complete the following steps.
  1. Click the “Files” tab found on the left-hand side of the screen. (If “Files” tab is not showing click the “…” tab, then click “Files”).
  2. Click “OneDrive” found under “Cloud Storage.”
  3. Click “Upload.”
  4. Search for your desired file you want to upload to Teams.
Figure 1 provides you with the 4 steps to edit a document in Teams.

Scheduling Meetings with Teams

When it comes to scheduling a meeting, Teams enables you to schedule team meetings with options such as the meeting time, date, and even details of the meeting. The following steps will help you in scheduling meetings with Teams.

  1. Click the “Meetings” tab found on the left-hand side of the screen. (If “Meetings” tab is not showing click the “…” tab, then click “Meetings”).
  2. Click “Schedule a meeting” found on the bottom left of the screen.
  3. Edit any of the preset details of your meeting.
