Read Aloud

The Read Aloud Chrome Extension provides you with a robotic voice which reads website text aloud. Read Aloud is an assistance tool designed to read to you at your preferred pace, language, and pitch.

The following guidelines describe the main steps to properly download and use this feature.

1. Open Chrome.
2. Click on “Apps” in the upper left-hand-corner to go to the Chrome Web Store. Alternatively, google “Chrome Web Store” and click on the first link that pops up.
3. Search “Read Aloud” in the left-hand search bar.
4. Click “Add to Chrome” next to the Read Aloud extension.
5. To view details on your extension, click the three vertical dots to the right of the URL.
   
   1. Click “More Tools.”
   2. Click “Extensions.”

1. Open Chrome and go to the website you want to read.
2. To the right of the URL, click the megaphone-looking symbol.
3. To immediately play the text on the page, click the “play” symbol.
4. Alternatively, click the “settings” symbol for more options. (If you can’t find the settings symbol, click on the “stop” symbol, which looks like a square, and then the settings will appear.)
   
   1. Under “Voice,” choose from a variety of different voices, accents, and languages.
   2. Adjust speed, pitch, and volume in the shown settings.
   3. If “Text Highlighting” is turned on, you can highlight the portion of the text you want it to read, and then press play.
