Valley City, ND
I am majoring in Human Services with minors in Music and Music Education and an American Sign Language Certification.
Why did you choose VCSU?
I chose VCSU because it was the only school that would allow me to pursue both of my passions of American Sign Language and Music.
Favorite part about campus:
My favorite thing about campus is the staff and faculty are willing to help you with anything you need. No matter if you are struggling in school or struggling in your personal life, the professors here are more than willing to help you in whatever way they can so you can succeed.
What do you hope to do with your degree?
After I obtain my degree, I hope to pursue Deaf Missions, Deaf Counseling, and Pastor's Children Counseling. I also hope to do Christian Music American Sign Language Interpretation and Christian Theater Interpretation. I mainly just want to help people and make a difference with my life, no matter what I end up doing.
Favorite class on campus and why?
My favorite class on campus would have to be Jazz Band. Being a flute player, I usually don’t get the opportunity to play in jazz bands. I really enjoy playing a different style of music, and our instructor makes the class fun and enjoyable.
Any advice for incoming students?
Just don't be afraid to get involved. There are so many ways to get involved and meet people, and there is something for everyone no matter who you are. Also, don't be afraid to be yourself. You never know what kind of impact you can leave on someone or on a place by simply being yourself.
What are you involved in at VCSU? I am involved in Vikings For Christ/Intervarsity, Alpha Lamba Delta, Viking Ambassadors, NAFME, National Society of Leadership and Success, Chi Alpha, Special Olympics when time allows, and I am a Learning Center tutor.
