Kamphuis receives VCSU Foundation ‘Difference Maker Award’

The VCSU Foundation Office has named Kevin “Sparky” Kamphuis of Valley City as a recipient of its “Difference Maker Award” for his stalwart volunteer efforts in support of Valley City State University and Viking Athletics. Kamphuis was recognized at the VCSU Vikings Fall Athletic Kickoff event held Tuesday evening, Aug. 21, at the Valley City Town and Country Club.

The Difference Maker Award was adopted by the VCSU Foundation Office to recognize friends of the university who have made significant contributions to the university through dedicated service, promotion, financial support or other efforts.

“Whether it be the Fish Fry, Century Club membership solicitation, the Spring Auction, working at our tailgating events, or the Viking Scramble, Kevin is always there—he is a workhorse to say the least,” said Larry Robinson, executive director of the VCSU Foundation. “He is clearly making a difference in the lives of our student-athletes.”

A native of Wimbledon, N.D., Kamphuis has worked at Grotberg Electric in Valley City for more than 30 years. There he serves as a journeyman electrician, vice president and a member of the board of directors. He also serves on the council of Trinity Lutheran Church in Valley City and is a member of the Barnes County Wildlife Federation. He holds an associate degree in electrical technology from North Dakota State College of Science.

His wife, Elsa, works as an assistant cook in the Valley City Public Schools. The couple has four children and three grandchildren.
