Valley City State and Jamestown played a slugfest and a pitcher's duel on Tuesday, and the Vikings came out on the short end of both.

VCSU dropped a doubleheader against Jamestown, 14-6 and 3-0, played at Concordia College in Moorhead. VCSU is now 12-21 overall and 3-3 in conference play.

Up next: VCSU plans to host Dakota State on Friday at 4 p.m. for their 2014 home opener.

Jamestown 14, VCSU 6
In game one of the doubleheader, Jamestown outhit the Vikings 15-10 in a 14-6 victory.

After Jamestown opened up a 7-1 lead in the third inning, the Vikings fought back to within 7-4 with a two-out, three-run rally in the fourth. Jamestown added another four runs in the bottom of the inning to extend the lead for good.

Brady Anderson, Dan Buehner and Jake Rambow all collected two hits each for VCSU. Rambow finished the game 2-for-2 with a run scored and four RBIs. Bryce Venaas took the loss on the mound, allowing seven runs (six earned) and five hits in three innings of work.

Jamestown 3, VCSU 0
Valley City's pitching and defense was much better in the game two, but the offense could muster only three hits in a 3-0 loss.

Chip Rosales allowed five hits and three runs on the mound in a solid start for the Vikings. Jason Shaw was just a bit better for Jamestown, as he pitched a complete-game shutout.

Anthony Necochea, Brady Anderson and Tom Houdek all had one hit for VCSU.
