Valley City. The VCSU men’s basketball team begins DAC-10 play Thursday evening at Mayville. Tip-off is slated for 8:00pm CST.
The Vikings have lost four of their last five games and take a 3-5 overall record to Mayville. When asked about where to improve, Coach DeHaan pointed out that VCSU is averaging 18.6 turn-overs per game. "We are addressing the need to reduce our turn-overs. To win games in the DAC-10 we need to be strong with the ball and give ourselves a chance to execute the offensive scheme."
Austin McCullough leads the Viking attack with 16.1ppg. McCullough has already connected on 25 3-point field goals and is shooting a respectable 81.5% from the charity stripe. Dodge City transfer Luke Merrifield contributes 10.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per contest.
Mayville (4-1) is led by senior point guard Travis Lindgren. After four games Lindgren is averaging 33 points a contest. He is followed by Kelly Cota (16.5) and RJ Hanson (12.25). Curt Hong leads the Comet rebounding with 7.25 boards per game.
VCSU is ready to assert itself in league play after a demanding non-conference run. Coach DeHaan stated, "We have played a rigorous schedule. No one will be tougher than our non-conference opponents. Look for the Vikings to be very competitive in the DAC-10."
