Valley City, ND - Brady Ernst's jumper with three seconds remaining not only gave the Vikings their first lead of the second half but also the 63-61 victory.

The University of Mary followed with a long pass the length of the court and quickly called timeout to set up a lob to Kevin Tendall but Josh Cadwallader's pass in bounds was too long the Vikings ran out the clock and signalled farwell U-Mary.

After jumping out to an early lead thanks to Brandon Bata scoring his 1,000 point as a Viking, VCSU struggled to find an answer to the Marauders defense.

Trailing 29-20 at the break, the Vikings used their own defensive pressure to get them off the offensive snide and back within striking distance midway threw the second half.

A three pointer by Bata and a rebound put-back by Mike Stowman put the Vikings within two. Mary attempted to catch the Vikings sleeping with a long pass of the made basket but Jackson Sussex was on the spot to break up the pass and draw a foul. His two free-throws tied the game at 61 before Ernst drove the ball the length of the court and cashed in on the running jumper.

Maurice Vaughn warmed in the second half to pace the Vikings with 14 points. Bata added 13 points while becoming the 10th player in VCSU history to reach the 1,000 point plateau.

Joel Carter added and double-doulbe with 11 points and 10 rebounds while Ernst netted nine points and a game high four assists.

Valley City moves to 5-6 on the season while the Marauders dip to 5-7.
