Dakota State University over VCSU: 30-23; 30-18; 30-13
The Viking women traveled to Madison, South Dakota on the first of October to take on the Dakota State Trojans. Viking’s Coach Dian Burr feels that the young girls on the team need to learn to handle these long road trips. With more experience, they’ll find their way back to Valley City with a win instead of a loss.
The Vikings started off strong in the first game. Their offense was terrific as they passed the ball well and dominated the net. VCSU hit a wall in the middle of that first game. Their serve receive suffered horribly and the Dakota State took control of the match from that point on.
The Trojan’s were relentless, refusing to give up the court’s domination for the remainder of the night. After losing the first game 23-30, the Vikings went on to lose the next two games 30-18 and 30-13.
"We know that we can put a better product on the court," commented Coach Burr about the night’s match. Despite the ugly loss, some of the Viking women showed a lot of talent. Kelda Weigel did a very nice job in the libero position, Sarah White and Jackie Rohde both handled their net offense well.
The Vikings will be back in their home environment, Graichen Gym on October 14th meeting with Presentation College for the second time. They do however have another game on the road before that time. They play at Huron this Friday, October 3rd.
