Bay Minette, AL – Valley City State scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh in game one to defeat Robert Morris College 5-4 and then cruised to a 12-2 triumph over the Eagle in game two at the RussMatt Invitational Tournament in Pensacola, FL.

VCSU starting pitch Jason Beilke led 2-1 into the sixth inning of game one before he showed his only signs of fatigue by walking the leadoff hitter and then surrendering back-to-back doubles to give the Eagles a 3-2 lead. Beilke escaped further damage by inducing a double play and a strikeout to keep the Vikings within reach.

Trailing 4-2 heading into the final frame, VCSU's Chauncey Calhoun was hit by a pitch and Scott Dusessoy and Bryce Ingram worked walks to load the bases. Pat Olson struck out and Reid Arnold singled to bring the Vikings within one run at 4-3. Braden Raskob-Smith was hit by the first pitch to tie the game and Matt Huonder was also hit in his at bat to plate Ingram with the win.

Olson was 2-for-4 with two RBI's while Calhoun scored two runs in support of Beilke who struck out seven while surrendering six hits and two earned runs in six full innings of work. Mike Fox record two outs in the seventh and Cory Arnason (1-0) picked up the win retiring the only batter he faced.

Robert Morris took an early 1-0 lead in game two but the Vikings answered with five unanswered in the next stanza and stoked up the bats en-route to the 10 run margin.

The Vikings knocked out 15 hits led by Calhoun's 3-for-3 performance and two stolen bases. Arnold was 3-for-4 and Tony Forster 3-for-5 on the day. Jeremy Wiebe knocked in three runs. Marc Wilson (1-0) pitched six innings scattering three hits, striking out four and walking two. Nathan Erbstoesser pitched a perfect seventh frame for VCSU.

Valley City continues play on Monday taking on William Woods College of Missouri in a morning double-header.
