Valley City, ND -- Dustin Grabowska threw a five hitter as VCSU defeated Minot State in the opener at Valley City on Tuesday before Minot State answered by holding on to win the second game 4-2.

VCSU grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third as Bryce Ingram scored on a single by Scott Dusessoy. The Vikings moved the lead to 3-0 by stringing together singles by Tony Forster, Pat Olson and Braden Raskob-Smith.

The three runs proved to be all that Grabowska needed as the senior from Stephen, MN went eight innings giving up just one run in the seventh to get his second victory of the year. Nathan Erbstoesser worked the ninth to pick up his fourth save.

Minot State jumped up early in game two scoring two runs in the first on RBI singles by Mike Ronnie and Kal Triplett. The Beavers added another run off of Vikings starter Kory Foss in the second on an RBI double by Jordan King.

The Vikings made it 3-2 in the fifth on a single by Chauncey Calhoun and Tony Forster getting hit by a pitch.

The Beavers added a run in the seventh to make the final 4-2. Josh Hvidsten got the win for the Beavers and Foss took the loss.

Grant Kragness threw 4 innings of one-run relief for Valley City.
