VCSU won game one 5-0 on a combined shut out by Grant Kragness and Drew Herian, but dropped game two 7-1. With the split the Vikings took the series three games to one.
Jeremy Wiebe went 3-4 and Reid Arnold had two doubles to lead the Viking offense in game one. The Vikings capitalized on four Minot errors and couple of timely hits to post five runs in the game. Starter Grant Kragness threw three scoreless innings before giving way to Drew Herian who pitched the final six innings to earn the win. Kragness allowed three hits and struck out three Beaver hitters while Herian allowed four hits and struck out four. The shutout was the first of the season for the Vikings.
In game two the Viking bats fell silent as Minot starter Mike Montross threw a complete game for the Beavers. The Vikes allowed three runs in the first and four more in the fourth when two well placed Minot sacrifice bunts turned into hits. Taylor Nelson threw and effective final three innings for VCSU holding the Beavers hitless over the final three frames.
VCSU takes on Jamestown College on Wednesday in Jamestown. The double header starts at 2PM.
