Blue Hawk starter Louis Avila held down the Viking offense for the complete game win, limiting the Vikings to just two runs on five hits. VCSU starter Jason Beilke was effective allowing only three runs through the first seven innings, but a HBP and a single to start the eighth led to Beilke being lifted for reliever Taylor Nelson. Nelson could not work out of the jam and two more runs scored for DiSU.
For the Vikings Tanner Bombenger was 2-4 at the plate with two singles and Chauncey Calhoun was 1-3 with a triple. DiSU was led by Dan Boudreau, Tony Isbell, and Tury Escobedo who each had two hits in the game.
Matt Gottwalt allowed only one hit while throwing his second consecutive complete game and his first shutout of the season. Gottwalt was assisted by the Viking defense which did not commit an error and ended the game on a remarkable 4-6-3 double play.
Chris Olson and Bryce Ingram each had three hits and Reid Arnold had four RBI's for the Vikings including a bases clearing double in the fifth.
The Viking move to 6-8 in conference 11-17 overall, DiSU is now 3-6-1 in conference and 14-22-1 overall.
VCSU and DiSU will meet again on Sunday at Charlie Brown Field with a double header set to start at 1 PM.
