Valley City State University head football coach Dennis McCulloch announced the signing of Valley City High School senior Derek Elliott to a Dakota Athletic Conference letter of intent.

Derek was a key player in the Hi-liners run to the state championship game this past season. The Hi-liners finished the season 11-1 after falling to Watford City in the final game.

Derek rushed for 1,405 yards on only 191 carries averaging over 7 yards a carry. He scored 20 touchdowns and recorded 8 interceptions at free safety. For his efforts he was honored as AA 1st Team All-State and the AA Senior Athlete of the Year.

Derek is son of Dale and Linda Elliott and the brother of former Hi-liner and Viking Brad Elliott. Derek is projected as a wide receiver at VCSU and will major in exercise science.

Coach McCulloch says – 'We are very excited about Derek's decision to become a Viking. We feel he will bring tremendous athleticism to our offense. He is a tremendous young man who comes from a great family. We look forward to Derek competing right away this fall.'
