Viking Baseball Sweeps Dordt Again

Valley City--Make it four in a row for the Viking baseball team.

Valley City State worked a second sweep of Dordt, IA yesterday in Tempe, AZ, winning 9-6 and 12-1, the second game going only five innings. The wins draw the Viking record at 4-5.

Mike Danielson (So., New London, MN) got things started right in game one for the Vikings, blasting a two-run shot in the first inning. He finished with three RBI.

With the game tied 3-3 after two, the Vikings blew out to six runs over the next three innings, including a four-run third. Josh Evans (Jr., Hayfield, MN) earned a pair of hits and a pair of walks, scoring twice.

Preston Jenson (So., Valley City, ND) earned the win in relief, working four innings, giving up three runs on four hits, striking out five.

The Vikings ended the second game early, scoring nine runs in the second inning for a then 10-0 lead. The Vikings pounded out 14 hits in the 12-1 win.

Tanner Bombenger (Jr., Fargo, ND) had three hits and scored three times. Cliff Vazquez (Jr., Tucson, AZ) launched two doubles and a triple.

Roberto Rodriguez (Sr., Chandler, AZ) earned the win, working all five innings, giving up just a run on four hits, striking out two.

The Vikings face Springfield College Wednesday. The trip to Arizona continues through Saturday.
