Vikings Split with Comets

Valley City--The Vikings and Comets traded a pair of blowouts in Minot yesterday.
Valley City State scored a 12-run barrage in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings for a 12-5 win over the Comets in the opening game of yesterday's Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) action.
Mayville State responded by posting seven runs through the first three innings of the night cap, then tallying eight more in the fourth for an 18-5 win.
Michael Danielson (So., New London, MN) continued to lead the Vikings offensively in the opening game, finishing 3-4 with a run and three driven in. Matt Borgford (Sr., Pinawa, MB) drove in five, including a three-run homer in the fifth.
Taylor Nelson (Jr., Ramsey, MN) picked up the win, working five innings, allowing two runs on seven hits, striking out four.
Dan Maurer (Sr., Klamath Falls, OR) was roughed up in the finale, taking the loss on three innings of work, allowing 12 runs and 12 hits.
Danielson had three more hits and drove in a run. Josh Evans (Jr., Hayfield, MN) picked up two hits and scored a run.
The Vikings are now 6-4 in DAC play, 13-14 overall. They face Jamestown College in Jamestown on Friday, weather permitting.
