Valley City State University Men's and Women's Cross-Country team Interim head coach Ryan Brohmer recently revealed the 2011 team awards.
Richard Wright was named the men's team Most Valuable Runner. Richard led the team with the fewest points scored throughout the season with only 241 points. His best 8000 meter time was 27:37.37; third best time on the team for the season. He also received All-Dakota Athletic Conference honors (6th).
Transfer Kinsly Tarmann from Bemidji State University won the Iron Viking award for the men's team. This award is given to the individual demonstrating the greatest dedication program, teammates, and themselves. Kinsly Battled through several injuries over the course of the 2011 season and yet never missed a practice, he was always the first to cheer on his fellow teammates in competition or practice. He was always around to lend a helping hand for the coaching staff and worked hard to fundraise for the program.
Anna Fuka was named the women's teams Most Valuable Runner. Anna led the team with the fewest points scored throughout the season with only 229 points. Her best 5000 meter time was 19:46.00; this was the best time that any female Viking could produce on the year. She also received All-Dakota Athletic Conference honors (5th).
Freshman Krista Briss won the Iron Viking award for the lady Vikings. As mentioned before; this award is given to the individual who demonstrates the greatest dedication to the program, teammates, and themselves. Krista was nothing but these things she never hesitated to support her fellow Vikings, never complained, and was always willing to do whatever she could do to help the program.
