Valley City, ND--After 21 years as head women’s volleyball coach at Valley City State University, Coach Diane Burr will be stepping down. Burr started her coaching career at VCSU the Fall of 1981. During her time at VCSU she has coached women’s tennis and track and been either the assistant or head women’s softball coach. During the 1990 academic year Burr took a sabbatical. This was the only time she has not been the coach for the volleyball team. Burr is also an Associate Professor with the Health and Physical Education Department.
Taking over the program will be Charity Nix, a former VCSU volleyball athlete and a 2000 graduate of VCSU. Since graduating from VCSU Charity has coached at Lisbon and the Valley City School systems. This is a half time coaching position. Dwayne Wandy will continue as the assistant coach.
Coach Burr said, “I was given a tremendous opportunity by Valley City State University when I was hired in 1981 and I will forever cherish and treasure those memories which have been recorded over the years. I have had the opportunity to work with some outstanding young athletes who have become over the years very close friends.”
Burr ends her Volleyball coaching career with a 372-335 record.
