COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Both the men and women Viking Harriers competed at the annual Saint John Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 8, in Collegeville, MN.

The Viking men were lead, for the second week in a row by Jose Garcia over the five-mile course, in finishing 23rd overall with a time of 28:23. The course proved to be both scenic and challenging as it snaked through the woods surrounding Saint John University, offering a variety of terrain including a number of hills, twists, and turns. Josť was followed by his wingman Richard Wright in 29th place, with a time of 28:56.The space between VCSU first man and fifth man was about sixty five seconds but unfortunately, our fifth man had an unusual subpar race, which put a considerable time between our fourth and fifth men. The fifth man was heard saying after the race it is time for me to pick up my training to get back in the thick of it.

The Viking women harriers jumped from racing 4000m last week at home to racing 6000m this weekend. Anna Fuka showed her continue dominance as the number one runner on the team in finishing 20th overall with a time of 25:01. Anna was backed up by Summer Romine in 52nd place, with a time of 26:49. This is a remarkable performance by Summer as this is only her second cross country race in her career. Coach Frenette was heard saying' this young lady has potential as a cross country runner' to Summer's chagrin! Krista Briss showed she had plenty of gas in the tank as she passed a number of runners in the last 1,000m of the race to finish 67th with a time of 27:21.

Full results at for women and for men.

Both teams will be competing at Minot University Friday September 14 at the Wiley Wilson Memorial Cross Country Meet Burlington, ND/Wild Wood Golf Course
