Both the men and women Viking Harriers competed in a dual meet at Northern State University on Friday October 5 at Lee Park Golf Course in Aberdeen, SD.
The course proved to be relatively flat but the temperature at the start of the women's race was 38 degrees and rapidly falling with a 20 mph wind. In spite of the conditions, a number of Viking individuals raced well, posting multiple personal records as a team.
The Viking men prove to be well balanced, as once again, they have a new number one runner with Richard Wright posting the top finish for the team this week. Wright finished in fourth place with a PR run of 27:01 over the 8000m course. Wayne Engelhard was the team's second man with a PR run of 28:05 to finish seventh. Kinsly Tarmann was the Vikings fourth runner in dropping his time by almost 90 seconds for a PR of 28:29.
The Viking women harriers were led by Anna Fuka over the 5000m course with a 4th place finish and a time of 19:50. Anna was followed by Summer Romine in ninth place with a PR run of 20:57. Freshmen Jenna Coghlan also showed continue improvement as she lowered her time down to 24:32.
