The Viking Harriers wrapped up their season in Yankton, SD competing in the Mount Marty Invitational ending the season on a high note as a number of Individuals turned in personal records or season best times.

The course was relatively flat with a couple of slight inclines at mile one and three, along with the last 300m to the finish. While the weather the previous two days was driving rain with a constant 25-30 MPH wind, that was not the case on race morning. The race started with sunny skies and a slight breeze of only 5-10 MPH out of the southeast.

The Viking men turn in their best team performance of the season with only a seventy five second separation between our first and fifth man. For the third week in a row, Richard Wright was VCSU's number one runner finishing 53rd in 27:25 for 8000m. Jose Garcia ran his best race of the season in setting a new personal best of 27:34, finishing 61st. Casey Flick also stepped it up in posting a personal season best of 28:12 which placed him 91st. Malik Jackson continued to lower his personal best time to 28:42, along with Eric Schauer smashing the 30 minute barrier with a time of 29:30.

On the women's side, Summer Romine stepped it up in being VCSU's top women Harrier. Romine set a new personal best time for the 5,000m distance, with a 20:42 finish to place her 63rd overall. As I mentioned previously this was Summer first ever cross country season, she was recruited to VCSU as a high jumper. I believe this young woman has a bright future on the trails for the Viking Harriers. Jenna Coghlan gained more valuable experience as will as she kicked passed four runners in the last three hundred meters of the race to finish her first season as a Viking Harrier.
