The Vikings hosted Mayville State on Wednesday night. With a good crowd on hand, the Vikes looked to send their rivals on a long trip home. The Comets had other plans. They jumped out to an early lead in Game 1 and looked like they had things under control. The Vikings battled back and stole an exciting Game 1 by a score of 30-27.

Game 2 was a battle. Both teams played hard and traded leads throughout the game. Mayville State prevailed in the end and won 30-24 to even the match at 1-1.

VCSU jumped out to an early lead in game 3 only to see the Comets come back to take the lead. They never looked back and went on to win 30-24. That gave them the lead in the match at 2-1. The Vikings now had their backs against the wall. They had to take two in a row from the Comets in order to win the match. The Comets had other ideas. Keeping the momentum alive, Mayville State jumped out to a big lead and never let up in Game 4. They went on to take the game 30-17, and the match 3-1.

The loss drops the Vikings’ record to 3-6 and 0-1 in conference play. The Vikings play this weekend at the Concordia Invitational (September 13-14).
