Aurissa Martens (hitter) of Valley City State, Katie Wangberg (setter) of Mayville State (N.D.) and Amanda Kramer (libero) of Jamestown (N.D.) were chosen as North Star Athletic Association Players of the Week, announced Monday by the conference.
NSAA Volleyball Hitter of the Week
Aurissa Martens – Valley City State (N.D.) – 6'0", Senior, middle hitter – Manitou, Manitoba, Canada – Martens averaged 3.2 kills per set and .78 blocks per set as Valley City State went 2-3 for the week. She recorded a match-high 18 kills in a five-set NSAA conference home loss to Mayville State. Martens amassed a total of 57 kills on the week with a hitting percentage of .305, 20 digs and 14 blocks (five solo blocks and 18 block assists). She surpassed 900 career kills at VCSU and currently stands 11th in the Vikings' volleyball record book with 916 career kills.
NSAA Volleyball Setter of the Week
Katie Wangberg – Mayville State (N.D.) – 5'7", Junior, setter – Pine River, Minn. – Wangberg produced an average of 6.4 set assists to help Mayville State to a pair of victories last week. She had a double-double of 40 set assists and 11 digs in Comets' 3-2 NSAA conference road victory at Valley City State. Wangberg accumulated 51 assists, 15 digs and nine kills (with a killing efficiency of .615).
NSAA Volleyball Libero Player of the Week
Amanda Kramer – Jamestown (N.D.) – 5'5", Junior, libero – Roseville, Minn. – Kramer was selected as NSAA Libero Player of the Week for the second straight week. She averaged 5.1 digs as Jamestown went 3-1 in the Clarke (Iowa) Tournament last weekend. Kramer averaged 5.1 digs per set and 0.3 services aces. She recorded 61 total digs in four matches and three service aces. Her reception percentage was .953 with two service errors in two matches.
Only one NSAA volleyball conference match is scheduled this week as Jamestown hosts Presentation (S.D.) on Friday.
Jamestown, receiving votes in the latest NAIA Volleyball Coaches' Top 25 national poll, plays NCAA Division II University of Sioux Falls in Jamestown on Thursday night. The Jimmies continue their home stand versus Briar Cliff (Iowa) on Saturday afternoon.
Valley City State travels to Bismarck State College on Tuesday and returns home on Friday versus Briar Cliff (Iowa).
Mayville State hosts NSAA's future conference member Dickinson State (N.D.) on Tuesday night. The Comets will host Dakota Wesleyan at 4 p.m. on Saturday, while Valley City State will play DWU in Mayville at 2 p.m.
Presentation heads to Dakota Wesleyan on Wednesday night. After the NSAA conference match-up at Jamestown on Friday night, the Saints return home on Saturday versus Lake Region State (N.D.) at 7 p.m.
Dakota State continues their five-match home stand on Thursday as they host in-state rival Mount Marty at 7:30 p.m.
