Welcome from President Shirley

Welcome to Valley City State University! Thank you for taking the time to visit our website and peruse the many fine academic programs, extra-curricular offerings, and unique programs we have to offer.

VCSU has served the state and region for over 120 years. Founded in 1890 as a teacher's college, VCSU is widely regarded as a long-time leader in teacher education. Over the years, we have also developed innovative programs in business, information technology, health, and science, plus an outstanding portfolio of programs in the liberal arts. More recently, VCSU has established an impressive national reputation for being a leader in implementing technology into our teaching delivery methods. Every VCSU student and faculty member has a laptop computer, and technology is embedded in everything we do.

VCSU is a campus centered on teaching excellence coupled with opportunities for students to participate and succeed in research, leadership opportunities, student clubs and organizations, and athletics. We take great pride in our outstanding record for student satisfaction. The rich history of the campus stretching back over a century has led to an alumni and community base that remains active and committed to the success of the university.

Valley City State University is fortunate to have an entire team of faculty and staff dedicated to their students' academic well-being. That dedication is one reason that VCSU has been recognized by U.S. News and World Report in their annual "Best Colleges" issue for 16 straight years for the overall quality of our university. For 2014, U.S. News ranked VCSU as the #2 public regional college in the Midwest for the second consecutive year. Additionally, VCSU's online Master of Education program is ranked as #42 in the 2014 Best Online Graduate Education Programs in the nation by U.S. News. (It's the only program from North Dakota to make the rankings in this category.)

As VCSU continues to expand our programs and curriculum, we have entered into several new partnerships with world-class organizations enabling student opportunities that are second to none. The future is an exciting one here at VCSU, and we look forward to having you join us on the journey!

Please feel free to contact me directly if you have questions about VCSU or would like further information. I urge you to stop by the President's Office and say hi anytime you are on campus. Hope to see you soon!
